English Captains |
This year our English Captains have taken part in many activities from P6 interview days to Christmas celebrations, running the English Festival, school functions and the peer support program as well. The role of the English Captains at FKLMSTSS is now expanding as our Captains become more involved in planning and running English activities themselves, learning valuable leadership and organisational skills along the way. We are very impressed with the hard work that they have done so far this year and the leadership skills that they have demonstrated with other students in helping them to feel comfortable in using English around the school. Our English Captains are a fantastic group, we are proud of them all!

Fung Kai LMST Introduces English Captains
The English landscape at Fung Kai has changed! In September 2010, the Fung Kai English Society recruited some English Captains – some enthusiastic and dedicated students who have a passion for the English language, and who believe they can make a difference both at Fung Kai and within the broader community.
Each of the successful English Captains has demonstrated leadership potential, an awareness of the importance of English, and a willingness to work closely with all of the teachers at Fung Kai in raising the profile of English within the school. Their motivation is high and their commitment is strong.
We know that our English Captains will make an invaluable contribution to the school community, and we are confident that they will be outstanding role models for their peers. We wish them the best of luck.

Carmen Mak Ka Man (1B) Hello! My English name is Carmen. I am in Form 1. When I found out that Fung Kai was introducing English Captains, I was excited to apply. It is because I like English. I think English is fun and I want to practise my English. I want to help other Form 1 students to learn the difficult English words and grammar too. I hope they can like English like I do. English is important in this country because nowadays most jobs require people who have learnt English very well. I would like to help my schoolmates realise that English is interesting and that they can speak English confidently. Students should not be scared of English .

Sharon Tang Shiu Nam (1D)
Hi, my name is Sharon. I am in Form 1D. I am excited about being an English Captain because it is a chance to challenge myself, practise my English and help my friends to learn English. English is the “global language”. Whatever we do or wherever we go, we will have opportunities to use English, so we must have a good knowledge of English to make our first step. As a Form 1 English Captain, I would like to help all the Form 1 students to learn more English and participate in more English activities. This can be fun and exciting. I hope my friends can use the most important language to talk with each other at school and out of school.

Jenny Cheung Tsz Ha(2E)
When I heard that Fung Kai was introducing English Captains I felt excited because I really wanted to be an English Captain. The reasons I wanted to be an English Captain were first, I want to help my friends and family to improve their English language skills. Next, I think English is very important not just because English is the international language, but whatever job you apply for, the Personnel Officer will ask you, “Do you know English?” My main aim as English Captain is to change students’ ideas about English because English is very simple and not difficult, and I would like students to see English as fun. I hope I can help every student at Fung Kai.

Peterson Lee Hin Yeung (2E) Hi, my name is Peterson. I am in Form 2 and I am one of the Form 2 English Captains. Being an English Captain is a great job for me because I get to speak a lot of English and I can improve my English skills. Also, this position makes me brave because sometimes I need to face my schoolmates and have conversations with them in English, which is not always an easy job! My main aim this year to help run some English activities and speak more English with my schoolmates because I would like my peers to listen to more English. Also, I can help my teachers to create some English activities. Hope to speak to many of my peers at Fung Kai.

Alice Fung Kam Yan (3B)
Hi, I am Alice from 3B. I am glad to be an English Captain. I am “new blood” so I have some good ideas. One of the reasons I applied for an English Captain position is that my English teacher encouraged me to do so. I wanted this role to help promote English at Fung Kai and to help run the English activities. Let’s talk about my idea! I want to organise English activities that are easy to play. Maybe some students are too shy to play English games, so I want to invite teachers to play with the students! I want to try organising activities with my friends and teachers so that we can all learn more English. I hope you can support me in my role as Form 3 English Captain this year. |

Patrick Chan Pak Nin (3B)
Greetings! My name is Patrick. I am in Form 3. When I heard that Fung Kai was introducing English Captains, I was very interested in applying. Being an English Captain would give me an opportunity to improve my English skills. I believe that speaking English is a good way to improve your English. English is the international language. Nowadays many companies are using English. You can see that English is becoming more and more important. As an English Captain, I have the responsibility of encouraging other students to speak English. My main aim as an English Captain is to help the school to organise more English activities so that all of the students can improve their English language skills. I hope that all students in Hong Kong, not just the students at Fung Kai, can speak more English and have leading positions in Hong Kong. |

Hymms Cheng Tsz Him (4D)
Hi fellow school mates. I am Hymms from Form 4. If you ask me why I wanted to become an English Captain, the answer would be, “I want to talk more in English, so that I can improve my English skills.” Also, I would like to help my schoolmates to talk in English confidently. As I already know, the English Captains will hold many English activities throughout the year, so the first thing I must do is to ensure that activities run perfectly. The other thing I want to do is to get to know why students are shy when it comes to speaking in English. We should speak in English a lot more so that we can all improve. I hope I can help you guys this year! Don’t be shy to approach me and speak in English. |

Vivian Ma Wei Jia (4D)
Hello, I am Vivian from 4D.
The reason I wanted to be an English captain is straightforward – I love English and therefore I would like to share my experiences with all my schoolmates. As we all know, English is the most used language around the world, especially in Hong Kong. No matter what university or occupation one chooses, one needs to have a high degree of oral English proficiency as the most basic requirement.
I have one or two ideas on how to help others to develop their English skills, and I will try my best to stimulate them. I think all the English Captains should unite as one so that we can perform more efficiently. I have to admit that it's my pleasure to be an English Captain at Fung Kai. |

Many people think that learning English is difficult, but I think it is easy and fun! I would like to let my peers know the joy of English. My major aim as English Captain is to help the school run its English-based activities and to encourage others to use more English. I hope students at Fung Kai can find the joy in English and enjoy using it. |

I think English is important for all of us, for example, English is an international language which we can use in whatever country we visit. Secondly, I think being an English Captain is a good opportunity for me to improve my English. Furthermore, I want others to know that English is not difficult as long as you are willing to learn. Winnie Chow Wing Sum (6A) Hello! I am Winnie from 6A. I am very happy that I have the opportunity to be an English Captain at Fung Kai. Some of my classmates asked me why I wanted to become an English Captain. The answer is simple: a few years ago one of my teachers told me that English is not a subject, it’s an interest. I will never forget what she said to me. Now I can have an opportunity to improve my English and to help others improve their English. I will treasure this rare chance. Through innovation, I would like to create an interest in English at our school. That is my mission. Everyone at Fung Kai may participate in our events so that they can learn more English and speak in English confidently. I will try my best to be a remarkable English Captain. Don’t hesitate to join our English events. You will learn a lot and have fun at the same time.
